Close of the Race

For those who attended the pizza lunch in celebration of our successful fundraiser, we hope you enjoyed the pizza and communing with your fellow colleagues. Attached is a picture of the pillar with $7,059.12 worth of pink cotton balls. Oops, just got another check, we now have an even $7,100.00! Again, thanks to all who participated in the October festivities, we should feel good about making a difference in 46 lives in St. Joseph County. It’s not too early to begin thinking of ideas for next October.

With the fundraising we have done over the past 14 years, this year has put us over the $100,000.00 mark. Our grand total is $106,125.85….that’s a lot of mammograms!

2013 Race to the Goal Kickoff

Once again we are kicking-off our annual October fundraiser to raise funds for those in St. Joseph County in need of mammogram screenings or diagnostic mammograms. Over the years, we have raised over $99,000.00.  It is exciting to know that this year we will exceed $100,000.00!  As I mentioned at our staff meeting, this will be our fourteenth year and we will be changing how the race is run. We will no longer have a competition between the halls, floors, and buildings; we will now have an all-out effort by the College to meet a goal of paying for 66 mammograms or $10,164.00. The cost of a screening mammogram is $133.00 and the cost for a diagnostic mammogram is $175.00.  So, the average is $154.00 per test. If we raise at least $10,164.00, we will have made a difference in 66 lives. This year let’s call the race…The Race to the Goal! (and possibly beyond…)

Mo is working with Michael Elwell, an industrial designer in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design. Michael has been working with Anne Berry, a graphic design faculty member.  They have designed, what we will refer to as the “Pink Pillar” to measure our fundraising. As we meet our goals, the Pink Pillar will have ribbon around it to display the number of mammograms we will be able to provide. Pink cotton balls will be placed in the Pink Pillar as each goal is met. We hope to have the Pink Pillar in the Great Hall no later than October 9th.

Mark your calendars…

October 1 - The Race begins.

October 9 - The Office of Communications will have their annual espresso and homemade treats in the Great Hall, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

October 19 Join us for our tailgate.  We will have food and beverages available for staff. If you would like to participate, let me know so that I can order a table for you to display your items. If weather permits, we will set-up just outside O’Shaughnessy Hall in front of the clock.  If not, we will be inside in the Great Hall of O’Shaughnessy.

Every Wednesday will be our Power of Pink Day. You can wear jeans as long as you wear pink!

October 31- The Race ends.

November- a date will be chosen to have a pizza party to celebrate our successful Race to the Goal!

The College will again make available incentive items to help you promote the fundraiser. The available items and the donation amounts will be on our blog  http://al-race-to-raise-the-most.blogspot.com/.  I will order the Arts and Letters button down shirts every Pink Wednesday during the month of October.  Please have your orders in by noon. We now have an account set up for our funds -- if a shirt is ordered, it is not necessary to write 2 checks as has been done in the past. The check can be written to the University of Notre Dame in the amount of $35.00 and we will donate $10.00 for each shirt sold.

As you come up with ideas to raise funds, please feel free to use ALSEC@listserv.nd.edu to promote your fundraising event or items. Any flyers or items that you have can be added to our blog. Please send to Kristy Leininger, leininger.1@nd.edu . We will also be utilizing the Notre Dame Marketplace. This is a site that the public can go to and order our fundraising items. If you have items that you would like to sell through the Marketplace, let me know, we will need to discuss mailing fees.

If donating by check, make payable to: United Health Services. Remember United Health Services is the facilitator of our money; we do not raise funds for them. We fundraise for those in St. Joseph County in need of mammogram screenings and/or diagnostic mammograms.

Let the Race begin!!!
